Exactly what is a Light and Laser (IPL) most frequently utilized for?
Light and Laser (IPL) are most frequently utilized for lightening and removing “sun spots,” “age spots,” and also brownish blotches on the face, neck, chest, hands, and various other locations of the body. As well as lightening and reducing inflammation, rosacea, dilated capillaries, and “cracked” blood vessels on the face, neck, and upper body. It also improves skin structure with collagen stimulation, as well as improves pore size by briefly decreasing oiliness.
How does the Light and Laser treatment enhance the look of blood vessels, rosacea, as well as age spots or freckles?
The IPL Light and Laser releases a range of light waves that target the hemoglobin (red blood cells in the blood vessels) or melanin (the brownish pigment in freckles/age spots). The light beam travels through the skin as it is absorbed by either hemoglobin or melanin, damaging the vessel wall or fragmenting the melanin pigment making them less visible.
How long does it take for Light and Laser (IPL) treatments to work?
Most people require 3-6 treatments, a month apart for best results. You should see some enhancement after each visit but results vary with each treatment. Depending on sun damage or redness, you may require the full 6 sessions.
Do Light and Laser (IPL) treatments hurt?
There may be moderate discomfort throughout the treatment, but many individuals tolerate it quite easily. The initial treatment is often the most “lively.” As your skin starts to clear, the therapies often become more comfortable.
Exactly what should I expect during a Light and Laser (IPL) treatment?
A full consultation and pre and post treatment protocols will be reviewed by you and your certified laser therapist. Your therapist will put special glasses and eye pads over your eyes to shield them from the lasers light. This is followed by a thoroughly cleansing of the skin and an application of a cooling gel to the area that is being treated. The smooth glass surface area of the laser is gently applied to your skin and pulses of light flash. You may feel an intense small sting, like the snapping of a tiny rubber band. At the end of the treatment the therapist will remove the gel, cleanse the area with a warm cloth, and apply a soothing mask followed by a moisturizer and sun screen. In most cases you can re-apply foundation or concealer after the treatment.
How do I prepare for my Light and Laser (IPL) treatment?
Whenever possible, for 2-4 weeks prior to your treatment, stay clear of self-tanners as well as excessive sun exposure. You should also stop taking minocycline, tetracycline, doxycycline or Retin-A/Renova several days before each session. You may also be asked to avoid taking pain killers, ibuprofen, or Aleve one week before your treatment unless medically indicated to help prevent bruising.
Does the Light and Laser (IPL) treatment have any type of side effects?
The primary adverse effects are mild; temporary swelling, inflammation, redness, slight darkening of brown spots, and crusting.
Will the Light and Laser (IPL) treatment make me more sensitive to sunlight?
No, it will not. You can have the treatment done at any time of the year, however in the summertime you will have to be more careful of the sun. Apply sun block every morning and use hats to protect your skin, which will also minimize redness, brownish spots, creases, as well as skin cancers.
What will I look like after the IPL treatment, and what is the recovery time?
Generally the skin looks a little red after the treatment for only a few hours, but for those with very delicate skin it can look slightly red for two to five days. Make-up can be used right after the treatment session but should be applied and removed delicately. For blemishes and age spots they generally look darker for 3-7 days. Crusting can take place, which might last around 10 days. The pigmented area will then start to clear and will typically be resolved in one month. Do keep in mind that it takes an average of 3-6 treatment sessions to clear most age spots.
How long will the results last from a Light and Laser (IPL) treatment?
Results can vary depending on how much direct exposure to sunlight your skin gets after your treatment. If you are in the sunlight a great deal and do not use sunscreen, the underlying problems, whether they are redness or brown spots, will return. However, if you take good care of your skin and protect it from sun exposure, your skin will certainly continue to look excellent with annual treatments. If you want to maintain collagen growth, we recommend a treatment every 6-12 months. If you have more redness, or an excessive amount of age spots, once or twice a year may be needed to maintain your results.
How does a Light and Laser (IPL) treatment boost collagen production?
The laser light by-passes the external layer of skin (the epidermis) and gently heats up the cells in the deeper layer of skin (dermis). These cells, called fibroblasts, begin to generate more collagen, which enhances skin texture as well as reduces fine lines and wrinkles.
Do I need to shave prior to my treatment?
If you would like to shave, please make sure it is done at least the day before your appointment. Please do not shave the day of the facial as some treatments or ingredients may irritate freshly shaven skin. If you don’t want to shave, that’s okay too. We welcome beards of all shapes and sizes, customizing our treatments to work with the condition of the skin.
Will a facial help with a dull looking beard?
Our products are optimized to work with facial hair and not against. Our beard oil is formulated with argan and jojoba oil which helps bring lackluster hair back to life, adding shine and hydration to combat flaky skin and dandruff.
Which booster is right for me?
Our add-ons target specific skin concerns and are designed to work with your facial of choice. The Cold Plunge helps close enlarged pores while On The Bright Side is a much needed treatment after pulling an all-nighter.
How do I know which skincare products are right for me?
If you aren’t currently using any products or are unsure if the products you are using are right for you, feel free to bring them in. Our esthetician will be able to tell you during your consultation whether these products are suitable for your skin type and provide you with a skincare regimen that is aligned with your skin type and lifestyle.
Can I use laser if I still want my facial hair intact?
You can choose from an array of services but we advise against using the Light and Laser treatment as it will capture the hair follicle and can cause permanent hair loss on bearded areas. Instead, we would recommend a regular facial along with our laser spot treatment dermal booster, to target only specific areas of concern.
