You may think you can get away without investing in skincare in your twenties, but this is actually the most important decade for your skin. How you care for your skin in your twenties and thirties will determine what it will look like for the rest of your life.

20s: Right now your skin is probably at its healthiest

With great collagen support your skin is looking smooth and supple. Most likely whatever sun damage you may have has not yet started to show.

Common Issue: Acne

Acne is the number one complaint for those with young skin. Unsightly bumps can be caused by hormonal changes or a bad skincare regimen.

Products to Use:

Cleanser: It’s important to use the right cleanser to balance your skin type and treat skin conditions such as acne. Cleansing gels do a great job of removing excess oil on the skin without stripping your skin of moisture. Cleansers with salicylic acid can also help exfoliate the skin and prevent pores from clogging and causing breakouts.

Moisturizer: If you are acne prone, you want to look for a light-weight moisturizer that is oil free. Our Replenishing and Clarifying Moisturizers are both oil free and non comodegenic. They add much needed moisture and water while keeping blackheads and pimples at bay.

SPF 15: It’s imperative that you protect your skin against environmental pollutants. As a precaution a minimum of SPF 15 should be worn daily to prevent hyperpigmentation and maintain that dewy, clear complexion for years to come.

30s: To help maintain a healthy glow

You will notice that your complexion will be a bit drier regardless of your skin type. Specific areas in the face, such as your eyes, will start showing fine lines and wrinkles. Retaining moisture has now become a must to prevent permanent signs of aging.

Common Issues: Fine Lines, Puffy Eyes, Enlarged Pores, Age Spots

Fine lines develop as collagen and elastin start to break down in the skin. Delicate skin under the eyes becomes thinner and under-eye puffiness can be an issue. Pore size may appear larger and skin may feel dry and flakey. Sun freckles start to appear depending on your sun exposure.

Products to Use:

Cleanser: Try hydrating cleansers with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, which helps reduce the appearance of fine lines. You will want to look for something that is gentle on the skin and won’t strip away natural oils.

Exfoliants: Cell turnover starts to slow down regardless of your skin type, so incorporating an exfoliant twice a week is recommended. Try our Exfoliating Polish with magnesium or our Pumpkin Peel with vitamin A to encourage cell regeneration and allow your creams to penetrate better.

Moisturizer: Look for moisturizers that provide anti-oxidant ingredients, Vitamin C daily moisturizer is a must. DON’T FORGET YOUR SPF DAILY (SPF30+)

Night Time: Adding serums, such as Argan Oil, Replenishing Night Moisturizer or Rescue Serum, containing peptides and retinol are important if you want to prevent more permanent damage in your 40s.

40s: To help diminish permanent signs of aging

For both men and women, hormonal changes start to take place in the body and you will begin to see a reduction in the skin’s firmness, elasticity, and moisture. Lines around the mouth, eyes and forehead. Loss of bounce-back in the skin due to declining elastin levels. Undereye circles become more prevalent. Noticeably drier skin. In the pre-menopausal years – skin balance may be upset and become oily and prone to breakouts or very dry and sensitive

Products to Use:

Creamier cleansers like our Gentle Daily Cleanser are recommended unless enlarged pore size and oiliness is still an issue

Exfoliation: You should now look at exfoliation as part of your daily cleansing routine

Moisturizers: Heavier moisturizers are generally required to combat hydration such as our Replenishing Night Cream with argan oil (high in Vitamin E and hyaluronic acid)

Eye Cream: To combat fine lines, puffiness and under eye circles

Night Time: Retinol creams that are .5%-1% are recommended such as our Advanced Retinol Night Cream.

50+: To firm the skin by restoring skin’s hydration and plumpness

The biggest concern in your 50’s is the loss of collagen and elastin. This lack of collagen affects how well your skin bounces back and contributes to lack of moisture and glow. Facial lines become deeper, pores stretch and sun damage becomes more visible.

Lines and wrinkles deepen – in the 50’s and beyond loss of estrogen impacts the skin’s elasticity and plumpness. Saggy skin may be apparent for the first time and – depending on your genes – a jowly look can develop. Skin tone becomes more uneven and you may see an increasing number of ‘sun spots’ and hyperpigmentation
